vintage kimonos
We love collecting pieces of vintage Japanese kimonos. There is something so special about them, and their colorations and silk quality are often breathtaking.
Last year we designed a simple tree, and made wool-filled door hangers and ornaments with the vintage silk.
This year, we're making circular, lightly wool-stuffed kimono balls with them. This kimono ball garland is another version, with the balls hung from organza ribbon. There is something so simple, so clean and so luxurious about them, I think.
Very soon, in our shop, we will have upcycled vintage kimono silk tree ornaments available. The colors and intricate patterns in the pieces of silk waiting in a pile on my mom's sewing table are so very lovely.

I love this polka-dotty little silk swag! love, Beth
ReplyDeleteVery cute. I have a few kimonos from the Japanese festival that is held here each year. Wish I could find some tattered ones...since I can't bring myself to cut them...lol
ReplyDeletethank you Beth and Rose! most of the pieces we cut up for these are pieces of old kimonos (often, the whole kimono hasn't survived the tests of time). it is beautiful stuff to work with, for sure.
ReplyDeleteoh, golly. this swag is lovely.
