hearts & happy musings

I guess we've been pretty busy in this house.

I've been busy preparing a big order of hearts and acorns and more hearts... being shipped off to Terrain / aka Urban Outfitters in Philadelphia to be part of their big Valentine's Day merchandising. Yay! Kudos to them for seeking out handmade, sweatshop-free pieces.

And photographing some of the lovely blankets my mom has been sewing up.

Like this one (pictured above) with vintage Finnish cotton (from the 1960s, we think) paired with our sturdy yet soft organic cotton flannel. We only have 2, I wish we had lots more. But that's the thing about upcycling vintage fabric -it's most often in little tiny pieces.

And this one, an Amy Schimler print from last year, paired with the same organic cotton softness. I'm not usually too big on heart patterns, but these two - I quite like.  Maybe it's the black and the graphic-ness of the print.

Meanwhile, the little girl I'm lucky enough to live with has had some very heartwarming musings in the last few days. A few - I just must share. When I first heard them they made my heart sing, and when I re-read them I feel reminded of my resolution to be more present.

"My body is full of song" she announced from the backseat last week, after a pottery class.

Time is a big topic of interest. There's "half-en o'cock" and "after a couple of whiles..." Oh, and "hippin' and hoppin' time'.

And then this:  "The difference between a pig and a tree is that the tree has branches and a pig has a tail to wave when it's windy, so they're kind of similar."

Absolutely.

(p.s. happy weekend)
