musings of a wee one & festival of lights

Things are busy as ever here.  We've had a house full of sick, which has been most challenging but most magical with lots of unplanned quiet and close time too. Hanukkah starts tonight (!) - and there are lots of menorahs to polish up and bring out to light up with our little beeswax candles.

I saw a wonderful recipe for apple latkes we just might try out too! You can find it here.

The handmade exchange is in full swing, and people are starting to mail out their packages today and tomorrow. Hopefully everyone will receive theirs by Winter Solstice, just in time to add some beautiful seasonal warmth to their homes.

In this very busy time, I try to remember the need to slow down and savor the sweet, quiet moments. So I leave you with two sweet musings from my almost-4-year-old.

{on the passage of time...}

"Mama, it was a long time ago. When? It was actually just before 'way back then'."

{on forging an independent path.... and attachment.... and growing up - and reacting to so many of her friends in junior kindergarten... already at 3 and 4 years old!}

When I grow up and have a family, things will be a bit different. I'm going to have a different job. An engineer. S*** (her friend who she now envisions as her future partner) will also have a job. So our kids will be daycare.

And then she jumps in my lap for a huge hug, and asks me how much I love her. I say forever. And will I always take care of her and help her? And I say yes, because at least in my heart - I will.
