Uniform Project's LBD ... suit
The Uniform Project (whose pieces would surely be in my closet but for the burgeoning baby-ness) just released a new piece - the LBD Suit ... the little black dress suit! A zip down high waisted skirt and shell top that doubles as a suit. It's gorgeous. And sweatshop-free, custom made in a NY factory with sustainable tencel twill.
The U.P. started in 2009 with a challenge (wear the same dress every day for an entire year), an even greater challenge (make it look really unique every one of those 365 days without buying anything new) and a fundraiser (raise money to send underprivileged kids to school via the Akanksha Foundation). Well, Sheena raised over 100,000 for kids, and developed an international following. Now the U.P. is into its 2nd year, growing all the time.

I love the uniform project! I'm waiting for the classic dress pattern to be released again (sold out months ago, and it's my fav) - if they're going to make it available, I think I'll sew 10 dresses! :)
ReplyDeleteUpdate: the classic pattern is back! The fabric is already all sold out, but it doesn't matter. Can't wait I get my pattern and start sewing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen for reminding me to check! :)
Wow, I really love that dress in the uniform project! I'm off to check their site.
